Plans for future of Wragge’s building to be revealed

ASSET managers behind one of central Birmingham’s best known business addresses are seeking views on its future pending the departure of tenant Wragge and Co.

The law firm, which was founded in 1834, is due to move out of 55 Colmore Row after agreeing a pre-let on 185,000 sq ft at the nearby Two Snowhill development, which is due to be finished by 2013.

Aegon Asset Management, on behalf of building owners Aegon UK Property Fund, has appointed Abstract Land to review the building to “look critically at future options” in light of Wragge’s move.

A statement from Aegon said: “While the tenant will pay rent until 2017, they may choose to depart as early as 2013 and as such, Abstract Land is bringing forward a planning application for proposals to remodel the building so that it can once again assume its historic role as Birmingham’s best office address.”

The building was refurbished in 1991 but retains its historical Victorian façades and original Victorian Banking Hall inside.

An all-day exhibition is being hosted at Hotel du Vin in Birmingham on June 14 with breakfast presentations from Abstract Land, architects Aedas and GW Planning.
