Cash conscious drivers bring growth for Black Code

CASH-CONSCIOUS drivers looking to squeeze every last drop of fuel out of their vehicles have helped boost a Staffordshire car remapping business.

Black Code, launched by Oliver Bilson three years ago, retunes engines to make them more efficient but without loss of power.

The service is in demand both from individual drivers and fleet owners.

Such has been the demand for its services during the last year that the company has expanded from 18 outlets to 60.

The company is now looking to expand further as the cost of fuel continues to focus the attention of drivers everywhere.

Mr Bilson has developed Black Code through his franchise consultancy business Craoli, which manages franchise development projects.

He said: “Black Code appeals to two markets; the car enthusiasts who want to get the maximum driving experience from their vehicle and anyone who is looking to reduce fuel consumption and save money.

“The last year has seen a huge increase in people taking out Black Code franchisees and associates. We had 18 in summer, 2010, and now have 60.

“Motorists have seen fuel prices leap from around a £1 a litre to over £1.30 in around 18 months. This has clearly made our economy tuning very attractive for both fleet and individual drivers.”

Vehicle remapping is popular because car manufacturers’ standard settings do not maximise a vehicle’s fuel efficiency or power. Black Code said this was done because global car producers sold into different markets and had to limit a vehicle’s performance to allow for poor fuel quality and extreme climatic conditions.
