Brooke-Smith becomes VP at RICS

THE Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors has elected the founder of a Birmingham-based planning consultancy as a new vice-president.
Louise Brooke-Smith, of Brooke Smith Planning, is one of the youngest ever to take the position and the first woman to hold the role.
She is also the first person from the West Midlands to take such a senior role within the RICS and is expected to take over the presidency in 2014.
RICS is a regulated professional body and has 100,000 members in 140 countries.
Ms Brooke-Smith, who launched her consultancy in 1994, said: “I am absolutely delighted and honoured that the governing council of the RICS has elected me.
“We have a high concentration of members in the UK but the majority of our newly qualified members now come from overseas from our other world regions of Europe, Middle East and Africa, Asia, India, Oceania and the Americas where the value of the RICS qualification is held in high esteem.
“The Institution has changed dramatically in the past few years and is now truly international in its outlook, taking advantage of the dramatic changes in technology and communications. I am really looking forward to taking on the challenge.”
