Worcestershire firm unveils ‘world first’ hybrid refuse truck

WASTE management systems manufacturer FAUN-Zoeller, whose UK hub is in Worcestershire, has launched the world’s first hybrid electric-diesel refuse collection vehicle in the UK market.

The Rotopress Dualpower Hybrid can help reduce fuel consumption by up to a third and features energy saving technology which monitors and manages fuel consumption.

A second auxiliary engine – held within a soundproofed capsule – reduces the noise created when in operation in residential areas and allows the vehicle to function on electricity alone rather than hydraulics.

The company has been showing off the vehicle at a series of events around the country, and is hoping for orders from local authorities and public sector contractors.

Redditch-based UK chief executive Simon Hyde said: “These events present an unparalleled opportunity for us to demonstrate a product which will help our clients drive down their operating costs and impact on the environment with a vehicle that is sustainable without compromising on functionality.

FAUN-Zoeller is part of the FAUN Group, which has manufacturing facilities across Germany, France and Switzerland. It is one of four companies within the Kirchhoff Group, alongside WITTE tools, mobility vehicle manufacturer REHA and automotive parts group Kirchhoffe Automotive.
