Great package deal for Staffordshire firm

STAFFORDSHIRE-based Weedon Holdings Group has bought a corrugated packaging manufacturer in a deal expected to double the company’s turnover.
The Hednesford packaging firm has acquired Manchester-based Rowpak Containers in an undisclosed deal, including almost of all its 100 staff, and it will now operate as Weedon Corrugated Products.
Established in 1987, Weedon Holdings Group includes Weedon PSC, a manufacturer of retail-ready packaging and point-of-sale display units, and i2i Europe, a specialist in retail own-label packaging.
Weedon said the deal was expected to double the group’s annual turnover from £10m to nearly £20m.
Managing director John Weedon said: “As Rowpak was based in Manchester, this move gives us a springboard into the north of England.
“Our customers will now be able to draw upon a much wider range of facilities and resources as the acquisition gives us strategic support for sheet supply and allows us to offer an end-to-end solution for customers.”
Midlands accountant Baldwins and Birmingham-based law firm The Wilkes Partnership acted on the deal for Weedon Holdings Group.
Wilkes corporate partner Gareth O’Hara said: “Rowpak was an underperforming business, with 100 jobs under threat.
“As part of its new position in the Weedon Holdings Group, all but a few of those jobs have been saved.
“The completion of this acquisition is an important boost to Weedon Holdings Group’s already successful business and helps our client achieve their strategy for the future.”
