Custard Factory to host Street Food Saturday

Local street food fans are in for a treat thanks to The Custard Factory, who this month are launching their very own street food event.

The Custard Factory, which is based in Digbeth, will showcase a wide range of street food and drnks alongside Birmingham’s favourite markets and festivals once every month. The area, which is home to a variety of independent stores, restaurants and bars, will become home to the new initiative in a bid to offer locals an alternative way to spend their Saturdays.

The first Street Food Saturday will take place on Saturday April 15 at the cultural quarter and will fit in well alongside the Easter Fayre that the venue is also hosting over the weekend. The fayre will include artisan market stalls, cult family films, and Easter egg hunt, face painting and other family activities.

Tara Newman, Head of Events at the Custard Factory, says “Street Food Saturdays will compliment Birmingham’s thriving street food scene by offering a fantastic daytime experience for street food lovers in the city centre.

“Just 10 minutes’ walk from the Bullring, this monthly event is a great excuse to while away a few hours amongst the colourful street art and independent shops in the city’s cultural quarter.”

Local street food traders taking part at the first Street Food Saturday will include German sausages from Yümlaut, curries and chaats from The Indian Rasoi, homemade soups and deli sandwiches from littlesixtythree and a selection of international dishes from Chef Shack.

For the sweet-toothed, Churros Susanna will be on hand with their much-loved Spanish churros and chocolate sauce and there’ll be scrumptious cakes, bakes, and proper tea from HMS Cupcake.

The Gin Box will also be at the event and will serve beverages and gin-based cocktails from their lovingly converted horse box.

The first Street Food Saturday will kick off from 11am.
