Outdoor cinema to take centre stage this summer

An outdoor cinema offering locals the chance to watch their favourite movies whilst the sun goes down is arriving in the city this summer.

Taking place at The Mockingbird Cinema and Kitchen at The Custard Factory in Digbeth, the event will take centre stage at the popular venue on August Bank Holiday weekend.

The venue regularly hosts event cinema screenings, offering something a little different to locals than catching the latest films at their local cinema. The Mockingbird Cinema have already hosted a Star Wars event this year and are even welcoming a gospel choir to the venue in July for its Sister Act themed evening.

The event, which is in partnership with sister company Factory Cinema, will see bars, street food and cinema snacks all available to enjoy alongside the films, as well as prizes for best costumes and a range of after parties.

Lee Nabbs, Factory Cinema, said: “We have all seen advertised outdoor screenings that have never actually happened. By partnering with The Mockingbird Cinema and Kitchen, I knew that the combination of their reputation and customer base, along with the perfect venue was exactly what we have all been waiting for.”

The programme for the weekend, which falls on 25 – 27 August 2017, is set to include cinema favourites like Batman and Back to the Future alongside sing-a-long classics like Grease and the infectious Rocky Horror Picture Show.

James Brown, from The Mockingbird Cinema and Kitchen, said: “Film can transform any space it is projected onto and with the plans we have for the courtyard, we cannot wait to see hundreds of customers enjoy the screenings with us.”

More details of the event are set to be released in the run up to the event, including more films that locals will be able to enjoy as well as timings and other news.
