Gaucho ups the steaks on Birmingham’s culinary scene

Gaucho at 55 Colmore Row

One of Birmingham’s most anticipated restaurant arrivals of recent years takes place on Monday when Gaucho opens its doors to diners for the first time.

The venue in the newly-refurbished 55 Colmore Row marks the first UK opening of Gaucho for seven years and is further evidence of Birmingham’s growing reputation as a major culinary centre.

Specialising in the Argentine cuisine which characterises the brand, the 120-cover restaurant is expected to become a premier destination for the city’s business community as well as visitors to Birmingham.

From its opening day, Gaucho is promising to introduce all aspects of its brand to Birmingham, including its famous Electro Brunch menu, wine tasting and beef masterclasses.

The décor is described as “sophisticated and contemporary yet warm and welcoming”, having taken inspiration from rural Argentina and its giant Ombu trees.

As with all its outlets, beef is the predominant focus of the menu, as it has been for the past two decades.

It looks to separate itself from steakhouses across the country by sourcing all the beef served in its restaurants directly from 45 specially chosen farms in Argentina.

Whilst famous for its steaks, Gaucho will also offer a selection of seafood and fish dishes, prime home-made sausages, and a range of lamb and poultry, all refreshed seasonally.

Alongside the food, Gaucho’s wine list will give diners a choice of over 200 Argentinian wines, with many exclusive to Gaucho, and two brands produced in Gaucho’s own vineyard in Mendoza.

Matt Ford, marketing director at Gaucho, said: “This is our first opening in the UK for seven years, and in that time we’ve visited countless sites up and down the country, watched the growth of various cities, and finally decided that Colmore Row, at this time, is the perfect home for Gaucho.

“The food scene in Birmingham is booming and we’re very excited to be a part of it.

“Our London restaurants are recognised not just for the quality of food, but the highest standard of service, and this will certainly be the case for Birmingham. All Gaucho staff have passed service and product knowledge exams, and operate with the philosophy of ‘one guest at a time’, ensuring every visit is an experience.”
