Agents lay down the law over police station disposal

Former Shirley Police Station

A former police station in Solihull is being disposed of, prompting speculation about potential redevelopment options.

Shirley police station is being put on the open market with offers over £850,000.

Birmingham independent commercial property agency KWB has been appointed by the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner to market the 8,042 sq ft property, which occupies a 0.43-acre site within Shirley town centre.

Situated on the A34 Stratford Road between Morrison’s supermarket and Dove Tree Court retirement apartments, the former police station is classed as sui-generis use in the planning regulations, so purchasers will require planning permission for any other use.

Martin Cook, of KWB, said: “The property is situated within the town centre and is therefore suitable for a variety of uses including retail, office and residential, subject to planning consent.

“The building could be retained, but it is most likely to be redeveloped.  The site is on the southern fringe of Shirley’s main shopping area, the second largest retail centre within the borough of Solihull.”
