The former chief executive of hotels group Hilton has led the purchase of two 4-star hotels in the West Midlands.

Sir David Michels has agreed a deal to buy the Abbey hotel in Redditch and the Lea Marston hotel in Sutton Coldfield from RSM Leisure. The price is undisclosed, but the properties were marketed seeking offers in excess of £23m.

RSM Leisure was the operating vehicle for the Blake family, who are retiring after owning the properties for more than 25 years, The Caterer has reported.

The 99-bedroom Abbey Hotel is set in 160 acres of Worcestershire countryside and has a championship standard 18-hole golf course.

Lea Marston Hotel & Spa has two 9-hole golf courses on its 54 acres while the hotel has 117 bedrooms.

Gavin Wright, director of JLL’s hotels and hospitality team, said both hotels generated “extremely strong corporate and leisure demand”.

He added: “The hotels are established conference, wedding and banqueting venues and offer extensive leisure facilities, spas and health clubs with circa 5,000 external members across both sites.”
