Traffic Alert: Long delays to M6 following serious accident

Motorists are being warned of delays of around an hour on the northbound M6 near Birmingham following a serious accident.

The northbound section of the carriageway between Junction 5 (Castle Bromwich) and 6 (A38M/Birmingham city centre) had been closed but one lane has re-opened within the last five minutes.

However, Highways England has warned that while the traffic has begun moving again, there are still long delays in the area and the situation is not expected to revert to normal until much later in the morning.

Queues are currently stretching back to the connection with the M42 at Junction 4a and a diversion has been set up but drivers already on the motorway and those on the approaches have been advised to expect delays or to consider alternative routes.
