Traffic Alert: M42 facing delays of up to an hour following serious accident

Motorists using the M42 northbound on the approach to Birmingham Airport have been warned of delays of up to an hour following a serious collision.

The section of motorway affected is between Junction 5 (Solihull) and 6 (Birmingham Airport/NEC). The collision has damaged the central reservation and engineers are having to make emergency repairs to the barriers.

Traffic is currently at a standstill between junction 3 and 5 and Highways England has said the scene is unlikely to clear until at least 2pm.

Drivers, especially those heading to the airport, have been told to allow extra time for their journeys.

Other drivers have been urged to avoid the area if possible, although surrounding roures are also said to be busy.
