Eco-friendly car hire business expands West Midlands operations

Green Motion

A hire company which only rents eco-friendly vehicles has expanded into the West Midlands by opening a new base in Wolverhampton.

Green Motion opens its new branch at Nationwide House in Horseley Fields today (Tuesday). The location has been chosen specially because it is only a short walk away from the city’s bus and train stations.

The branch is stocked with more than 20 cars including electric, hybrid and low CO2 vehicles such as the Kia Rio, Audi A1 and the Volvo V40.

By investing in the latest green vehicle technology, the company has an average CO2 emissions figure across its fleet of less than 100g/km – substantially less than those from traditionally-powered vehicles.

Franchisee Tariq Malik said: “We’re excited to be opening in Wolverhampton. Having considered the impact motor vehicles are having on the environment, I thought it was time we had an environmentally friendly vehicle rental company in the area.”

“Close to five million people pass through Wolverhampton’s train station every year and we will provide people with an environmentally friendly option as they continue their journey onward.”

A 2016 study by Public Health England found that air pollution was responsible for an estimated 1,500 deaths per year in the West Midlands region – and 139 in Wolverhampton.

As well as providing low emission vehicles, the branch will offset the remaining carbon produced from journeys by customers.

Established in 2007, Green Motion’s aim is to help reduce the impact of global CO2 emissions associated with road travel.

Wolverhampton will be the fifth Green Motion branch in the Midlands, joining sites in Birmingham, Leicester and at East Midlands Airport.
