Traffic Alert: Long delays to M42 after serious accident

All lanes have now been reopened following recovery of the vehicles and a clean-up of the scene. Traffic is said to be moving freely again.

Motorists heading towards Junction 5 (Solihull) on the northbound M42 have been warned of delays of up to an hour following a serious accident.

Two lanes are closed on the section of carriageway between Junctions 4 (Shirley) and 5, and queues are stretching back to Junction 3.

Recovery of the vehicles involved has yet to take place and Highways England is warning that the situation will not be back to normal until at least 5.45pm.

In the meantime, drivers have been advised to avoid the area or to seek alternative routes.
