Traffic Alert: Delays of two hours to M42 after serious accident

Drivers using the M42 northbound are being warned of delays of around two hours following a serious accident which has closed three lanes of the motorway.

The section of motorway between Junctions 8 and 9 is severely congested as emergency repairs to the central crash barrier are completed.

Highways England has said queues are currently stretching back to Junction 7a and the scene is not expected to revert to normal until after 7pm.

In the meantime, it has advised drivers to seek alternative routes and to allow extra time for their journeys.

It is the second serious accident on the same section of motorway in as many days.
