Region provides just one out of 100 companies in fastest-growing tech companies rankings
Just one company from the West Midlands has been named in the annual Sunday Times Hiscox Tech Track 100 league table which ranks Britain’s private technology, media and telecoms (TMT) companies with the fastest-growing sales.
The list is dominated by London-based companies as usual – with 57 in the list and a further 12 in the south east.
However the North West has eight companies and Yorkshire and the North East has six.
Mobile content provider PM Connect is the sole West Midlands company. The Bromsgrove Tech Park-based business has recorded 96% annual sales growth over the last three years, rising to £14.5m, placing it 39th in the rankings.
Steve Langan, chief executive of Hiscox Insurance Company, said the companies’ “courage is laudable” adding “rapid growth and continual innovation takes grit”.
PM Connect appears alongside businesses from around Britain, including designer fashion website Farfetch, peer-to-peer lending platform Funding Circle and money transfer provider WorldRemit.
Past stars range from travel search engine Skyscanner, which was bought by Ctrip, China’s largest travel company, for £1.4bn last November, to takeaway website Just Eat, now worth £4.2bn.
