Travel Alert: London Euston rail services severely disrupted by fire

Commuters heading into London Euston from the West Midlands were facing major disruption to their journeys today following a serious fire overnight.

The fire, which involved gas cylinders, broke out in a building close to the railway line in Harrow shortly before midnight.

Due to the fire, routes into Euston from Milton Keynes Central are blocked.

Virgin Trains has warned people planning to use the West Coast Mainline service that trains running to and from Euston and Milton Keynes may be cancelled, delayed by up to two hours or terminating at and started back from, Milton Keynes Central.

Euston and Watford Junction will not be served, with the disruption expected to last until the end of the day.

The train operator said ticket restrictions had been lifted until 1pm but it has advised passengers to check with operators before heading out on their journeys.

London Midland has advised its customers not to travel via this route. It has requested road transport to run between Milton Keynes Central and London Euston, however, there is no estimate as to when this will be available.

Elsewhere, Chiltern Railways is carrying passengers between London Marylebone and Birmingham Snow Hill in both directions until further notice.

Crosscountry is running between Coventry and Reading in both directions until further notice. Arrangements have been made for Virgin Trains rail tickets to be accepted on these journeys.

Virgin Trains East Coast is and East Midlands Trains are both conveying passengers via any reasonable route until further notice. Again, arrangements have been made for Virgin Trains rail tickets to be accepted for these journeys.
