Poundland expands with new retail park store

DISCOUNT retailer Poundland will open its doors later this month on a new 6,000 sq ft store in Birmingham.

The company, which was originally founded in Willenhall by Wolverhampton businessman Dave Dodd, is launching its new store at the St Andrew’s Shopping Park on August 11.

The park was re-launched in June with the opening of a new 10,000 sq ft Outfit store combining five High Street brands in one unit.

Formerly the location of a Big W superstore, the new shopping park is next to an existing 74,000 sq ft Morrisons supermarket alongside Peacocks and Boots and a new JD Sports and Toys R Us opening later this year.

Poundland trading director David Coxon said: “Poundland has grown significantly over the past 12 months and it’s fantastic to see this expansion continuing with a new store in St Andrew’s Shopping Park.”

James Whitehill, of Legal and General Property which asset manages the retail park, added: “Since the launch of Outfit last month, St Andrew’s has continued to go from strength to strength and, with today’s announcement, is now almost fully let.”
