Traffic Alert: Day-long delays to M5 following earlier accident

The scene of the accident on the M5 (Highways England)

Motorists using the M5 northbound in Worcestershire have been warned that lane closures are likely to remain in place for most of the day following an earlier collision between two lorries.

Currently, two lanes of four are closed on the section between Junction 5 (Droitwich) and 4a (link with the M42) to allow recovery work to take place after one of the lorries involved overturned and slid down an embankment.

Traffic can pass the scene but speed restrictions are in place and there is heavy congestion in the area, partly due to long term roadworks. Queues are stretching back to Junction 6 (Worcester) and delays are currently estimated to be around an hour.

Traffic has been leaving the motorway at Junction 5 and using the A38 to try and get around the scene but that route is also heavily congested and traffic is subject to delays.

Highways England has said the motorway may not clear until after 6pm so drivers may want to consider alternative routes.
