Eighties superstars out to rule Birmingham as part of UK return

Tears For Fears

Nostalgia for the music of the 1980s continues to provide concert venues in the West Midlands with a string of bookings.

The latest band to announce their return are Tears For Fears, who will be appearing at Arena Birmingham next May, the venue announced today.

Having sold 30 million albums worldwide, performed to countless sold out audiences, and won various awards, Tears For Fears – Roland Orzabal [vocals, guitar, keyboards] and Curt Smith [vocals, bass, keyboards] – were one of the decade’s biggest bands.

Their classic albums – debut The Hurting [1983], the quintuple-platinum BRIT Award-winning Songs from the Big Chair [1985], and Seeds of Love [1989] – spawned a string of huge hits, including Everybody Wants To Rule The World, Shout, Mad World, Head Over Heels and Woman In Chains.

The band will be bringing their eight-date Rule The World Tour 2018 to the Birmingham venue on May 5 next year.

Joining them for the tour, their first in the UK for 13 years, will be three-time BRIT Award-winner and Grammy-nominee, Alison Moyet. In her 35-year career, the singer has released nine solo studio albums and a further three compilations.

Tickets for the show go on sale on November 3.

Sam Smith

Sister venue, the Genting Arena, has also announced today that singer Sam Smith has added an extra date to his appearance in Birmingham next April.

Already confirmed for April 3, the venue said strong demand for tickets had prompted the extra date, which will be April 4.
