More than half of Co-op building redevelopment sold

Coventry’s former Co-Op building is proving to be a hit with buyers with more than half the apartments already sold.

The department store is being converted by developer EDG Property into apartments as retail, office, café bars and restaurants.

The Co-Operative is set to be completed by March next year but already 50% of the 63 one and two-bedroom apartments have sold and EDG says there is strong demand for the remaining half.

Neil Edginton, managing director of EDG Property, said: “We have had an incredible response.

“Coventry hasn’t seen a city centre apartment scheme like this before so we were very much in unchartered waters when we decided to create The Co-Operative but we felt that this was a special opportunity.

“From the quality of the fit-out to the on-site amenities, we’ve made sure that this is something very special and the city has responded positively to that which is reflected in the sales so far. We released a number of units to the public at an event on September 27 and by October 1, half of the development had sold.”

He added: “Our decision to invest in Coventry has coincided with it being named UK City of Culture, which we have supported, and that has really helped to put the city on the map. It has opened people’s eyes to what Coventry has to offer and we are delighted to be part of that journey.

“It has resulted in national interest in Coventry and what we are doing here at The Co-Operative, which is exciting for us and for the wider city.”

The next phase of apartments are being released to an open day on Saturday, November 24.
