Prosecco bar prepares for Arena Birmingham launch

Bottega Prosecco Bar & Restaurant is set to open at Arena Birmingham next month, creating 20 jobs.

The venue will offer 142 covers indoors while an outdoor seating area, which has canal side views overlooking the Birmingham’s Old Main Line Canal, will have capacity for a further 40 people.

Operated by Charlie’s Restaurants, Bottega Birmingham is set to officially open on April 8 and marks an investment of more than £300,000 in the venue.

General manager Evelyn Armstrong said: “We are very much looking forward to having this unique offer in Birmingham city centre, where guests can experience great food and the Venetian style of eating, and an expansive Prosecco and wine menu.

Unit 1 at Arena Birmingham will become home to Bottega

“We are sure the restaurant will be a great success and a welcome addition to the city’s dining scene.”

The 3,300 sq ft unit was previously home to La Tasca, but the restaurant closed in May 2016. The casual dining offer at the Arena and neighbouring Brindleyplace has struggled in the last couple of years, with wine bar Veeno and restaurants Strada, Mission Burrito, The Smoke Haus, Cau and Le Monde all closing. However the pubs and bars have been more resilient and The Alchemist bar group will be opening its second Birmingham venue in Brindleyplace this summer.

Alan Goodman, general manager at Arena Birmingham, said: “We are really pleased to welcome Bottega to the Arena boardwalk to deliver a fresh and exciting canal side dining experience. Having established brands like Bottega offering new food and beverage options on our boardwalk ensures we provide the best possible customer experience to the 700,000 people who walk through our doors every year.”

This opening marks the sixteenth Bottega Prosecco Bar since its first launch, aboard the MS Viking Cinderella Cruise in January 2014.

Existing locations include Birmingham Airport, which opened in March 2018, and variations on the concept (lounges, beach bars, terraces and wine bars) located from Seoul to Seychelles, Gibraltar to Bulgaria, Oman to Tanzania. Five more venues are announced to open in 2019 in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Italy and Malaysia.
