Revenues improve at Smith & Nephew

MEDICAL technology group Smith & Nephew – maker of the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing System – has seen a small rise in revenue and trading profit during 2011.
Revenues grew from £589m to £661m in the three months to July 2, 2011, and from £1.2bn to £1.31bn in the six months July 2, 2011.
In Q2, trading profit rose by £6.1m to £145m and by just £600,000 to £239m in H1.
The plc, whose UK orthopaedics operation is based at Warwick Technology Park, enjoyed growth of 5% in America, 2% in Europe and 9% in the rest of the world.
Smith & Nephew is a global medtech business with interests in orthopaedics including reconstruction, trauma and clinical therapies, endoscopy, sports medicine and advanced wound management.
Chief executive Olivier Bohuon said: “We again outperformed our competitors in many of our markets by delivering innovative products that offer our customers clinical and cost benefits.
“We are operating in an increasingly changing environment. We are adapting to and anticipating these market conditions and have established a new strategic framework to drive Smith & Nephew’s future success.”
