Temple’s refurb completes following funding boost

An extensive renovation programme has been completed at a Coventry temple.
Work at the Nanaksar Gurdwara Gursikh Temple on Foleshill Road included an extension and the installation of a larger kitchen to provide better facilities for community events including weddings and religious services.
The temple, which was built in 1979, teaches and celebrates the Sikh faith to the local Sikh community but also to Sikhs attending from across the UK.
The temple includes a number of function halls where they hold daily religious services and for weddings, birthdays, funerals, anniversaries, and special religious celebrations. They also provide educational classes in the teaching of Punjabi and provide free food to everyone who attends, regardless of faith.
Commenting on the refurbishment on behalf of the management committee, President Satwant Singh Gill said: “Given the increased popularity of the Gurdwara over recent years and increased demand from the community to hold various functions, we as trustees, decided to build an extension to provide more rooms and a state-of-the art kitchen to accommodate more members of our community. We are delighted with the end result and look forward to welcoming more people to the temple.”
Baljit Soomal, business manager at Barclays, said: “The work that has been carried out has provided enhanced facilities and a great environment for people who attend the temple. I am sure these facilities will be well received by the local community.”
