Plans to turn disused office building into 100-bed student scheme revealed

How the scheme would look

A disused office building in Birmingham could be turned into a 100-bed student accommodation scheme.

Plans submitted to Birmingham City Council outline a Olton Developments scheme that would transform the former Sense charity offices on Birkdale Avenue in Selly Oak.

The building was previously slated to be turned into 24 flats, but the planning permission has now lapsed.

A planning statement reads: “: “There is a demonstrable need for student accommodation in this area and the site is ideally located to serve the university.

“It lies within walking distance of its main campus, as well as being close to local facilities such as shops and entertainment.

“In addition, the site is close to excellent public transport links with bus stops to the city centre and elsewhere close to the site, and Selly Oak Railway Station is a five-minute walk away.

“The proposal will sit comfortably within the Birkdale Avenue street scene and contribute positively to the area.”
