Work completes on 23,000 sq ft Lidl supermarket

Construction work on a 23,000 sq ft Lidl store in Birmingham has been completed.

Godwin Developments has signed a 25-year deal on just under a 23,000 sq. ft supermarket, which is expected to create 40 jobs when it opens in May.

The supermarket has been built on the former Western Power Distribution Depot on Warstock Road next to the Esso garage on Alcester Road South.

As part of the development, a new pedestrian access point was also created to provide a direct route to the store from Warstock Road.

Matt Chandler, associate director at Godwin Developments, said: “We are very excited to have completed on the Kings Heath site. As well as bringing a brand-new retail site to the area, we also expect to see the project reinvigorate the old and disused facility, by replacing it with a bright and welcoming retail store. This will, in turn, spark further development and regeneration in the surrounding area of the city.”

“This project is exciting for Godwin Developments as it further strengthens our existing national retail portfolio. We would like to thank the team who worked on the development and we look forward to seeing the impact the new store has on the surrounding area, both in terms of the local economy and making life more convenient for those who live in the community.”
