Electrical wholesaler doubles size of Birmingham HQ

A fast-growing electrical wholesaler has doubled the size of its headquarters in Birmingham within less than six months of setting up in the city.

Central Electrical Distributors has taken on a second unit at Aston Expressway Industrial Estate, which is owned by The Wigley Group, to accommodate its expanding team and warehouse facilities.

The company began operating from the industrial estate just off Aston Road last October, having launched with the opening of branches in Cannock and Wolverhampton earlier in the year.

The first unit at Aston Expressway Industrial Estate provided a head office with warehouse facilities and trade counter, and has proved an ideal location on the main A38M route into the city centre.

The company’s expansion into a second unit to provide more warehouse and office space coincides with strengthening its team to 12 with five new appointments.

It supplies and primarily delivers electrical equipment to the trade and stocks over 10,000 products with access to more than a million products from 800 manufacturers.

The company was launched by managing director Mike McHale with directors Rachel Bennett, Lee Robinson and Daryll Haynes.

McHale said: “We have invested heavily in a new team to drive our operations in Birmingham forward and we needed extra warehouse capacity to meet those demands.

“In the last six months we have opened 250 trade accounts, which is quite phenomenal for a start-up business and is down to our team and service. We are experienced and as an independent, are able to respond quickly and effectively to customer needs.

“The Wigley Group has been very supportive from the outset when we first identified Aston Expressway as a location for our headquarters and when this second unit became available, they presented it as an opportunity to support our growth.

“It has given us the reassurance that we have got the capacity to take the business further forward with our ambitions which includes opening more branches this year.”

The Wigley Group, the Warwickshire-based property, development and construction company, added Aston Expressway Industrial Estate to its portfolio in 2014, and continues to seek out investment and development opportunities throughout the Midlands.

Louis Smith, head of estates at The Wigley Group, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Central Electrical Distributors with its growth plans by being able to provide the space it needs to future-proof the business.

“Aston Expressway Industrial Estate was our first investment in Birmingham, and it continues to thrive with all five units occupied with tenants including Hilti and The Indian Brewery Company.”
