No threat to Birmingham 2022 Games after Olympic postponement

The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham is not under threat following the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, according to federation bosses.

With the Tokyo Games pushed back until 2021, next year’s World Athletics Championships and its swimming counterpart could be moved to 2022.

However, PA reports that Birmingham 2022 Games chief David Grevemburg is “fully committed” to bringing the Commonwealth Games to the city on time.

He said: “Over the coming weeks, we will continue to work collaboratively with international federation partners to ensure the XXII Commonwealth Games maintains its position and stature on the global sporting calendar.”

PA says that it understands that moving the Birmingham 2022 date on 27 July is out of the question.
