Covid-19 thermal imaging cameras set to be trialled in Birmingham

A Birmingham-based parking boss has diversified his nationwide operations to provide thermal imaging technology in the fight against Covid-19.

Cameras similar to those at Heathrow Airport identifying travellers infected with Coronavirus are being introduced by businessman James Tark, director of Euro Parking Services.

Birmingham is the first area targeted as businesses begin to return to trading after many days of lockdown.

Anyone arriving at a premises fitted with the cameras – including visitors, customers and employees, will be scanned by cameras designed to screen for high temperatures and signs of a fever.

If anyone passing through has a high temperature or fever, the system will trigger a warning which is displayed on screen.

The camera can take just a second to detect someone’s skin-surface temperature and can scan more than one person at a time, all these being achieved without any physical contact.

Tark is re-focusing his business to provide thermal imaging after operations were  scaled back during the pandemic, which has seen half of his 18-strong team furloughed.

Euro Parking Services manages more than 500 car parks across the UK.  Clients include NHS Trusts, McDonalds and National Express.

Tark said: “We want to be helpful and make a difference by providing tools to instill confidence and trust for staff and customers at this crucial time as well  the community at large.
“We have identified a business opportunity which will also help detect, control, and contain the virus. We’ve gone full steam ahead to provide state of the art technology.

“Our Prime Minister’s advice is to stay alert, and these cameras help achieve that.

“These high performance, critical and innovative cameras can be used in homes, offices, construction sites, and schools, not to mention NHS locations or, like Heathrow, other key travel destinations.

“We’re currently engaging with various companies and they are very positive about the peace of mind that these machines can bring to their organisation.

“They are set to go for the trial runs of the equipment and very interested to leverage the difference it can make.”

“Our team is trained to install and set up the cameras. Right  from the date of placement of an order, we can have the cameras installed within a week – or sooner if it’s urgent.”
