Homes England is working on plans to build almost 700 apartments on land around the proposed High Speed 2 station in Birmingham.

The agency wants to develop five buildings of up to 15 storeys each on New Bond Street in the Bordesley area of the city.

Homes England has submitted a Environmental Impact Assessment Scoping Opinion to Birmingham City Council for the scheme, which will also include commercial space and public and private amenity facilities.

Earlier this year, Birmingham City Council gave the green light to approve a deal which saw it buy the former Birmingham City University site at Perry Barr from Homes England to deliver the Athletes Village for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The deal also included Homes England buying up the authority’s site at New Bond Street in Digbeth.
