Green light for housing scheme at former engineering site

Detailed plans have been approved for a housing development at a former engineering site in Shirley.
Bellway is planning to build 260 homes at Lucas Green as part of a wider new neighbourhood on the former Lucas Engineering headquarters site off Dog Kennel Lane.
A hybrid planning application for the wider site was granted permission in March 2019, and Bellway’s detailed proposals for its first 76 homes have now been given the green light by Solihull Council.
Bellway’s plans include 59 two, three and four-bedroom houses for private sale and 17 affordable homes, including one and two-bedroom apartments and two and three-bedroom houses. There will also be public open space with a pond and play facilities along a cycle and pedestrian route.
The first homes at Lucas Green are expected to be released for sale early this year.
Marie Richards, sales director for Bellway West Midlands, said: “Our plans for these new homes at Lucas Green will provide a good mix of housing for the local area, on a brownfield site which enjoys a well-connected location just nine miles from Birmingham city centre.”
