A former residential care home site in Edgbaston is set to be transformed by Spitfire Bespoke Homes into 43 homes.

Solihull-based Spitfire will deliver a range of dwellings on the 3.1-acre site of the former Weston House care home after acquiring the land from Calthorpe Estates.

Designed by Birmingham-based Glancy Nicholls Architects, the collection of homes on Norfolk Road will feature 26 new build apartments and nine houses.

The project will also see the refurbishment of Weston House itself, which dates back to the late 1800s, transformed into a series of six apartments, while the adjacent coach house will become two smaller, semi-detached properties.

Alongside Edgbaston, the housebuilder has just finalised a land acquisition at Eckington in Worcestershire and is gearing up for further site purchases across the region in the coming months.

Ben Leather, managing director at Spitfire, said: “This is a distinctive project located in a prestigious part of Birmingham and is a prime example of what Spitfire stands for. We have established a reputation for creating quality homes in desirable locations and this collection offers exactly that.

“The acquisition of this site forms part of our wider land strategy – as a business we are actively seeking more land opportunities across the Midlands in an effort to increase our reach and offer our unique homes to a wider market.”

Haydn Cooper, Calthorpe Estates CEO, said: “With Weston House we were looking for a developer with a reputation for delivering high-quality residential schemes – Spitfire fits that bill. We are committed to creating thriving communities and enhancing Edgbaston. Regenerating the Norfolk Road site, along with the establishment of Edgbaston Village as a vibrant leisure and lifestyle destination, plus the arrival of the Metro and SPRINT, all strengthen Edgbaston as an attractive location for people to live, work and relax.”
