Plans for town centre’s ‘green heart’ revealed

Work is set to begin to deliver green space in the heart of Longbridge town centre.
St. Modwen has appointed contractors Ground Control to create a public space, including the extension of Austin Park, a new walking and cycling route underneath the Bristol Road, footpaths, seating and play equipment.
Landscaping plans include the planting of 46 new trees, 3,500 new shrubs and plants, 6,500 new bulbs and enough wildflowers to cover more than three tennis courts, while additional seating for up to 80 people is set to be installed.
The works are expected to begin in February, and are scheduled to finish before the summer.
Rob Flavell, senior director for regeneration in the Midlands and North for St. Modwen, said: “As Longbridge continues to grow and attract more visitors, employers and residents, it is vital that we continue to provide spaces which foster a fantastic community.
“The vision for Longbridge equates to far more than delivering new workspaces and homes, but creating an amazing place for all to enjoy. This extension to the fabulous Austin Park will aid walking and cycling and provide a new green heart in the centre of the town.
“Bringing important environmental benefits to our town centre, this investment will further increase the amount of visitors we welcome to the area, which is hugely positive. It’s an exciting and important addition to Longbridge, and we’re looking forward to seeing it come to life over the next few months.”
