Discount supermarket reveals launch date

A discount supermarket will open its doors in Dudley next month, creating 47 jobs.

Redistribution supermarket Company Shop, located at Castle Mill on Birmingham New Road, prevents good food and household products from going to waste.

It will officially open on March 10 and members will have access to low-cost food and products from brands such as Marks and Spencer, Nestlé and Tesco, which are on average around 50% off the normal retail price.

Membership is open to almost all key workers, including those working in the NHS, social care, emergency services, FMCG supply chain, British Army and prison services, and temporarily to those working in schools and councils, amongst others.

In order to reach families most in need across the region, Company Shop Dudley has also extended its membership to those in receipt of means tested benefits, including families with children receiving free school meals.

Company Shop is also encouraging local manufacturers, retailers and brands to get in touch if they are looking for sustainable surplus solutions for their products.

Sally Wake, head of strategic relationships for Company Shop Group, said: “We’re really pleased to be opening Company Shop Dudley in March, bringing our excellent offer to the West Midlands for the first time and fulfilling our longstanding commitment to the region. We are especially glad that we are able to open at this critical time, because the new store will help to stretch the budgets of families and key workers across the region, as well as creating 47 new jobs and preventing unnecessary waste.

“The opening of Company Shop Dudley has been made possible thanks to the ongoing support we have received from our industry partners, members, local organisations, Dudley Council and the wider community. We would like to encourage anyone who is eligible for membership to sign up straight away, so they can be amongst the first to benefit from our discounted offers as soon as doors open.”
