Shopping centre opens its doors to world-famous toy store Hamleys

Hamleys, the world’s oldest and largest toy retailer, has opened at Merry Hill shopping centre.

Situated on the lower mall near Waterstones and spanning a 1,840 sq ft space, the new store will bring 10 jobs to the retail and leisure destination and will be the first Hamleys store to open in the Black Country.

The toy retailer joins a number of family brands at the centre, including Mothercare, which returned inside Boots earlier this year.

Sumeet Yadav, chief executive, global retail business, Reliance Brands, said: “We are delighted to open at Merry Hill. Every year more than 10 million families visit us across the world for a unique Hamleys experience.

“Every visit to Hamleys is a reward in itself, the toy purchase is a bonus for the child. I am sure children will build lasting memories of fun and joy while adults will relive memories of their childhood at Hamleys in Merry Hill.”

Duncan Burns, marketing manager at Merry Hill, said: “We are thrilled that Hamleys has opened its first store in the Black Country at Merry Hill and we know that many of our visitors will be looking forward to experiencing their world-famous toy wonderland.

“Hamleys is an iconic brand with an unrivalled following among parents and children from around the world, adding to our already established family brands at the centre including The Disney Store.
“Merry Hill continues to be a great day out for families to enjoy and we’re sure that the arrival of Hamleys will be a huge hit with our visitors.”
