New York inspired cocktail bar announces opening date

Bar chain Manahatta is to bring its own take on New York-style cocktails to Birmingham when it opens in the city centre next month.

It will be the seventh site for the chain and its first outside the North of England.

Manahatta is a brand by Leeds-based Arc Inspirations, which also operates Banyan and sports bar Box.

Its Birmingham venue will open on October 18 in Temple Street, alongside Flight Club and the Botanist. The 6,700 sq ft venue will take up the ground floor and basement.

The site had been the Maplin electronics store for 15 years before it became a gym for a short period.

Plans to convert the site into a bar were first submitted the week before the UK entered its first lockdown in March 2020.

This was approved in May before a further application to extend opening hours to 1am every day was approved in November.

General manager Matt Sharp said: “If you fancy a bite of the Big Apple in Birmingham with food, drink and design inspired by downtown New York and its after-hours party scene, then get yourself down to Manahatta Temple Street.”
