Polestar to double UK workforce

Polestar has opened its Midland’s base to present its new model that’s being developed there.
The Polestar 5 model, due in 2024 will have a bonded-aluminium platform which along with the structural battery gives “supercar levels of torsional rigidity”, according to Pete Allen, head of Polestar UK’s R&D.
The firm says the Polestar 5 is set to compete with cars such as the Porsche Taycan, Tesla Model S and Audi e-tron GT.
Employing 280 people at its Coventry base, it’s looking to double its workforce in the UK over the coming months.
Allen said: “We aim to deliver a car as close to the design conception of [Polestar CEO] Thomas Ingenlath.”
With no rear window, one piece of glass flows over the rear passengers’ heads with a sold panel at the back.
Allen assures those concerned that there is a technological answer to no rear screen, with a like camera system with sensors to work the driving technology.
There is a ‘frunk’ offering some extra storage under the bonnet and whilst space is expected to be generous, there is a ‘foot garage’ for rear passengers.
A decision has reportedly been made on the power source for the launch cars, but not on battery usage.
