184-bed city centre student scheme gets approved

How the scheme would look

Plans for a 184-bed student scheme on a former Birmingham City Council car park have been approved.

The Sama Investments scheme on Lawson Street sits on land that was bought from the city council last Autumn.

Birmingham City Council’s planning committee voted today to approve the scheme which has 76 studio and 20 cluster flats all with en-suites across nine floors, with Velo Student Living, a newly incorporated company operating the building.

The scheme also offers a games room, lounge, yoga room and gym with a communal study space on the mezzanine floor.

The 6th floor will provide a communal roof lounge giving access to an external roof terrace.

Predominately a car-free scheme, a courtyard garden will provide additional spaces for students, whilst also providing up to 55 cycles.
