Plans for the Methodist Central Hall hotel have been revived.

Creative Cedar plan to change the use of the listed building and add a three-storey roof top extension to create a 155-room hotel.

A restaurant and bar will also be added alongside ground floor shopfronts, a gym and meeting rooms.

The Central Hall was constructed between 1903 and 1904 and has largely remained unchanged. The majority of its fixtures and fitting remain intact but the buildings condition has deteriorated during its use as a nightclub venue from 1991.

The club closed in 2002 and remained empty until 2007 when it became Que Club.

Due to its architectural significance Historic England has placed this Grade II listed building on its Heritage at Risk Register. The building was last used as a night club in February 2017 and since then it has been vacant above ground-floor level.

Therefore the developer plans to restore the auditorium to become an event space and repair the historic fabrics.

Creative Cedar has appointed SLR Consulting to prepare a noise statement as part of the planning application.

Although there are no residential units being proposed, the hotel rooms are classed as transitory residential units and therefore the new development should not result in ‘unreasonable restrictions’ being placed on existing businesses and any proposed new development should include ‘suitable mitigation’
