The Edgbaston Hotel hits the market

The Edgbaston Hotel, which is currently closed, has been put up for sale.

Specialist hotel and leisure property advisers Christie & Co and joint agent Fleurets have been instructed to sell the boutique hotel, restaurant, and cocktail lounge.

The 20-bedroom hotel and bar opened its doors in 2014.

The property is spread across two Georgian terraces and is positioned on Highfield Road in the Gastro Quarter of Edgbaston Village.

A further adjacent building that was recently refurbished as a restaurant is also available to create a larger opportunity.

Six of the bedrooms and suites reside in the main house, along with the bar and restaurant and an additional 14 rooms can be found in the adjacent building, which opened in 2019.

Charles Jones, associate director, hospitality, at Christie & Co, said: “The venue was forced to close during the Covid-19 pandemic, which came as a huge disappointment to the local community, so this is a fantastic opportunity for a new owner to reopen the much-loved venue and build on the success of the previous owners.”

Monique Royle, divisional director of Fleurets, added: “Prior to Covid-19, the business established itself as one of the flagship operations of the independent Birmingham scene. We see this as a fabulous opportunity for someone to carry on this legacy and create their own exciting future.”

Tom Foley, asset manager at Calthorpe Estates, added: “This is a really exciting opportunity for someone to build on a previously successful brand and offer a further valuable amenity in Edgbaston. We have been pleased with the unsolicited interest received to date  and are confident various offers will be forthcoming following the formal marketing campaign. Calthorpe are seeking an operator that displays  a successful track record and a passion to take on these attractive buildings to create a new leisure and hotel destination.”

The business is available by way of a new 25-year full repairing and insuring lease, terms to be agreed.
