Theatre signs 25 year lease to enable expansion

Albany Theatre has signed a new 25-year lease at Earlsdon Park plans to expand the back-of-house areas.

The expansion will strengthen the theatre’s ability to offer larger productions, while also providing facilities for local schools and drama groups.

The Albany Theatre is housed in an Art Deco building located in the centre of Coventry. Earlsdon Park has been home to the theatre since 2012, with the actual accommodation dating back to 1935 as a lecture hall in the Coventry Technical College.

It stages in-house performances as well as professional touring dance, drama, music and comedy productions.

Earlsdon Park was acquired in 2015, with plans to refurbish the site and let up vacant space. The site is now fully let, and has undergone significant improvements in recent years, including new landscaping and the installation of sustainable features such as energy-efficient lighting.

External seating has also been introduced to cater to Albany Theatre visitors and tenants of the buildings.

Dominic Moore, head of asset management & ESG director at Clearbell Capital, said: “We are delighted to be able to support the Albany Theatre further in its plans for expansion. Earlsdon Park has been the home of the theatre for some time and continues to contribute to Coventry’s UK City of Culture status.”
