Firefighters tackle two significant blazes

Ninety firefighters have spent the night tackling two fires across the West Midlands.
Firefighters were called first to a steel frame and metal-clad industrial building on Bullock Street, West Bromwich at 2:03am (January 6).
The fire involved around 60 tonnes of industrial waste rags and was attended by 40 firefighters in total alongside a hydraulic platform.
Local residents were requested to keep doors and windows shut as a precaution, but there is no immediate risk to the public from the smoke plume and run off water was contained on site.
At 2:30am West Midlands Fire Service were called to a significant fire on Adderley Street.
Fifty firefighters attended the fire in the Deritend area of Birmingham and contained it to the single-storey building in which it started.
The efforts of crews meant that three neighbouring businesses were saved.
