Fifty firefighters tackle severe fire in Willenhall

More than 50 firefighters have been tackling a Willenhall food factory fire since midnight (January 12).

Fire crews were called to Midland Food Group on Stringes Lane after the blaze broke through the roof of the industrial property.

West Midlands Fire Service has said the “severe fire” has affected more than 60% of the building, with 5 of 7 sectors across 3,251 sq m involved or affected by fire.

Crews from ten engines have worked to ensure a nearby vehicle fuel tank and oil tanker were not impacted by the fire.

All staff who were working on the site were evacuated safely prior to fire service arrival.

Roads are expected to remain closed through the morning, including:

• Greadier Street
• Short Street
• Mill Lane
• Haley Street
• Spring Lane
• Forge Street
• Ashmore Lake Way
• Strings Close

The fire service which was supported by West Midlands Police and West Midlands Ambulance, has advised homes, businesses or those travelling through the area keep doors and windows closed as a precaution.
