Council launches consultation on major regeneration plans

A public consultation has opened into a planned regeneration of part of Smethwick which could see the construction of thousands of new homes.

Sandwell Council said the plans to transform Rolfe Street would make the location “an aspirational place where people want to live”.

The public consultation will be open for six weeks until Monday 20 March 2023.

There will also be an in-person event at Smethwick Library, High Street, Smethwick on Wednesday 1 March between 11am and 3pm.

Cllr Peter Hughes said: “This Masterplan heralds the start of a major, aesthetic regeneration of the Rolfe Street area of Smethwick. So if you live, work, or visit the Rolfe Street area, I would strongly encourage you to take a look at the Masterplan and let us have your views.

“The more feedback we receive from you, the more we can adapt the plan to ensure that it meets the future needs of the local community, and to enhance the area.”
