Planning bosses give nod to £140m Jewellery Quarter scheme

A £140m residential scheme with a double height winter garden is coming to Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter after developer HBD secured planning for the project.

Known as Neighbourhood, the new development will create 414 apartments; a mix of one, two and three-bedroom properties.

Both residents and visitors will be able to take advantage of new public spaces and a mix of independent bars and eateries.

The development is HBD’s second high-profile project within the city’s historic Jewellery Quarter, with construction on Setl already well underway.

Simon Raiye, director at HBD, said: “Neighbourhood is a really exciting scheme for the Jewellery Quarter, creating a vibrant new community and a new urban garden for everyone to visit and enjoy. Its outward-facing design will give an inclusive feel and allow the scheme to blend into its surroundings, enriching the quarter and creating an important new community gathering place. We can’t wait to get started and see the scheme begin to take shape next year.”

Adam Brady, executive director and head of urban regeneration at HBD, said: “We’re very proud of Neighbourhood, which fits into our strategy of creating thoughtfully designed and sustainable communities. We work hard to deliver a positive impact on the communities where we work, providing a lasting-legacy for the area. As always, we’re keen to collaborate with the very best local artists, makers and producers to really add to the exciting Jewellery Quarter ecosystem.”

HBD expects work to start on site early next year, with completion in 2026.
