Plans for a major mixed-use scheme in Stoke city centre have been given the go-ahead by the city council’s planning committee.

The regeneration scheme will deliver nearly 300 homes, a hotel and a 3,600-capacity arena in the Hanley area of the city centre.

Phase one of the plans led by consultant Arcadis will create 92 one-bed flats, 44 two-bed flats, and three four-bed townhouses, along with 632 sq m of commercial, business and service space and public realm.

During phase two, plans include the creation of a 3,600 seat arena, 138-room hotel, an underground car park with 200 spaces, 5,620 sq m of commercial space and another 153 apartments.

Planners Marrons says the scheme will create more than 1,000 full time jobs through the construction phase and after completion. Marrons says this would add £27m into the region’s economy.

Stoke-on-Trent has secured £56m from the government in Levelling Up funding since 2021.

Sachin Parmar, planning director said: “Stoke-on-Trent has really raised its profile, tacking deprivation and providing opportunities to its residents through physical regeneration projects, enabling greater choice and diversity of jobs, employment and its city centre offer too.

“The masterplan scheme will bring significant employment benefits to the area, while the arena and hotel will promote the vitality of the city centre and boost visitor numbers – helping to support economic growth and making a big difference to everyday life for the local community.”
