Law firm unveils new deputy head of Brum office

Shakespeare Martineau has revealed that Joanna Lee-Mills is to become deputy head of its Birmingham office.

From Monday, partner and head of social housing development Lee-Mills will take up the post, with a key focus on connecting with the business community and helping to continue Shakespeare Martineau’s work by supporting local people.

Its Birmingham office is the largest of its 17 offices with 570 based on Colmore Square.

After qualifying in 2001, Lee-Mills has worked for Eversheds and Anthony Collins, and took a career break to have her daughter.

Shakespeare Martineau she says have been, “so supportive. After taking time out, many firms wanted me to start again from the bottom, but in fact Shakespeare Martineau celebrated it and I came back as a partner”.

On her work in social housing development, Lee-Mills says its her “passion to help provide affordable housing to people who are unable to get on the property ladder.

“It’s great to work in a role with an immense social value and for an organisation that is a responsible business and lives up to the values of being a B-Corp”.

Lee-Mills told TheBusinessDesk.com that her appointment marks the start of a new journey.

“It will see me working more closely with a wider and formidable set of individuals from the 1,400 colleagues across Shakespeare Martineau and the Ampa group, furthering the passion, commitment and space we have to promote dynamism, social responsibility, inclusivity and relevance, in addition to providing of course an exceptional full service legal offering – all the things that have made my job to date so extremely rewarding.

“I have some incredible partners and colleagues who have encouraged and supported me, including the network that I have built within the Birmingham business community.

“There’s a collective vision that involves true creativity, innovation and collaboration in the work that we seek to deliver, either at the office or within our local communities, with passion being the golden thread that binds it all together.
