Electric motorcycle manufacturer goes international

Electrical bike manufacturer Maeving is gearing up for further success internationally with bikes available in France, Belgium, Germany, The Netherlands with a launch in Australia and Singapore planned for next month.

The brand will also expand to the US later this year.

This new international sales development is a major step for the Coventry firm as it pushes ahead with an ambitious expansion plan spearheaded by co-founders and Will Stirrup and Seb Inglis-Jones.

Maeving’s first model, the RM1, is already the best-selling electric motorcycle in the UK since its launch last year. Featuring removable batteries that can be charged at any standard socket, near silent running, and an ease-of-use and riding style that directly appeals to those with zero riding experience, it’s an urban motorcycle that works for everyone and can be ridden on just a CBT licence (Compulsory Basic Training).

Maeving has a direct-to-consumer sales network in the UK where bikes are delivered to, and serviced at, your door; direct by the factory. In France, Germany, Belgium and The Netherlands this sales model will be the same with local partners in place to assist with servicing and repairs.

Sales in these countries are now live with motorcycle deliveries beginning in July.

Next month, sales will expand into Australia and Singapore where Maeving has partnered with local distributors in both of these markets, who will be selling through their own dealerships and managing local websites.

Later in the year – in the third quarter – sales will begin in the USA with deliveries starting in the final quarter of 2023.

Stirrup said: “This is an incredibly exciting time for all of us at Maeving. We knew we wanted to perfect our direct to consumer operational model in our first year, so have until now focused on just the UK. We now feel we’ve accomplished this, and are ready to offer the UK’s first British-built electric motorcycle to a wider audience.”

“We all want Maeving to be a British success story, and bringing zero-emissions urban transport to as many people as possible is a big part of what we set out to achieve.”

In its early infancy, Maeving overcame the challenges of Covid-19, the resultant supply crisis, and a brush with recession, to become the UK’s best-selling electric two-wheeler.

Maeving is backed by VC fund Venrex (early investors in JustEat, Charlotte Tilbury, Revolut & Orlebar Brown), as well as renowned angel investors John Ayton (chairman of Grind), Peter Williams (founder of Jack Wills), and Anthony Gutman (co-head of investment banking for EMEA at Goldman Sachs).
