Full list of Wilko stores to close next week revealed

The administrators of collapsed retail chain Wilko have revealed which 52 stores are set for closure next week.

Yesterday, a further 1,315 people were made redundant after announcing the store closures and axing of jobs at two distribution centres in Worksop and Newport.

The move comes after rival discount retailer B&M announced that it had bought 51 stores from the Wilko portfolio in a £13m deal.

For the West Midlands, Wilko’s Brownhills and Stafford stores will shut on September 12, and Walsall and Uttoxeter will close on September 14, impacting 74 jobs.

For those employed at the distribution centres, redundancy will be effective from the close of business on Thursday 7 September.

Administrators said they are “committed to preserving as many jobs as possible” as active discussions are ongoing with interested parties looking to purchase parts of the business. Depending on the outcome however, “it is possible that further store closures may regrettably be necessary”.

Edward Williams, joint administrator, said: “In the absence of viable offers for the whole business, very sadly store closures and redundancies of team members from those stores are now necessary. The loss of these stores will be felt not only by the team members who served them with such dedication, including through the uncertainty of recent weeks, but also the communities which they have been a part of.

“We are enormously grateful for the support of team members during this difficult period and remain committed to doing all we can to help affected staff, assisting them with processing redundancy claims and working with relevant parties to help secure new employment as quickly as possible”.
