West Midlands businesses raise £12k for Brain Tumour Charity

Members of the West Midlands business community raised more than £12,000 at the CAPS Ladies Day event, held at Edgbaston Golf Club.

Figures from across the construction and property Sector in the Midlands raised much needed funds for the Brain Tumour Charity in memory of Ben Burton, who was the business development manager for Overbury and sadly died in October 2022.

110 attendees from regional businesses started the day with welcome reception drinks followed by a three-course lunch before taking part in indoor charity horse races. Companies kindly took tables and sponsored different aspects of the day such as drinks upon arrival, prizes, table arrangements, horses and races.

Richard Freeman of Wilmott Dixon said a few words about Ben on the day. “Ben has bought so many people together and though sadly no longer with us, his legacy lives on through support of the Brain Tumour Charity that Ben selflessly supported not long after being diagnosed. A measure of the man, who always thought of others before himself. Truly missed but always in our hearts.”

Stewart Downing of ISG, a close friend of Ben’s added “Ben was something to everyone. A devoted Husband and Father, Colleague, and friend to many. He struck genuine fear into any Bar tender in the Midlands and was a menace to other road users as a keen MAMIL!”

Dave Ford, director of Gleeds and co-organiser of the event said: “It was fantastic to see so many of the region’s top professionals turn out to support such a great cause. When we put these events together, we are always amazed and humbled by the support we receive and also by the enthusiasm that the sector throws behind the days. It really is a pleasure to work in this sector with such a great group of people. The generosity of all the sponsors and guests was overwhelming and the money raised on the day is a credit to all concerned.”

Main sponsors of the Ladies Day event included Willmott Dixon, MGAC, Gleeds, CAPS, Blueprint Interiors, ISG, Kier and Edgbaston Golf Club.
